It was originally created at the Festival of the September Nights in Liège in 1985 by a Belgian composer, Philippe BOESMANS, and then interpreted by the group Synonyms.
They wanted to occupy the space opened by music and to integrate the motion of the body in it. Therefore Michel JAKAR, the director, Patricia KUYPERS and Keith ORMAND, the dancers choregraphers, started questioning the relation between dance and music. The space of the game will be a studio, the floor of which is covered with wather which is a mirror and generates luminous energy : a trompe-l’oeil for a music tricking the ear. That video-choregraphy was shot in Steadicam to make the camera conniving with the movement of the dance and the musicians, “ephemeral parasites” of the picture frame, letting the body of the music appear. It is an attempt to film music, that abstract art printing a visible trace in order to hold up the time of these “Ecstasies”.
