Of my mother, there remain a few super 8 films, sequences of silent lives, a reflection of what was her life, brief, secret and silent. Of my father there are no images except perhaps the ones my features have inherited.
My mother never revealed the name of my parent. From him, she just said that he was a Tunisian student passing through our city. It was in the 70s.
Before becoming a mother myself, I want to try to find this man. He turned out to be the former president of the student organization of Tunisian students. During our first meeting he said to me while I put a photograph of my mother at his coffee table: “I have seen this woman before”. Avant de devenir mère à mon, tour, je veux tenter de retrouver cet homme. A la source de l’enquête, l’ancien Président du cercle des étudiants tunisiens. Lors de notre première rencontre, il me dit alors que je pose une photo de ma mère sur la table de son salon : “Cette femme-là, je l’ai déjà vue”.
