Memoirs, memories of the few outstanding soldiers, still alive when the film was shot, of the First World War. And their presence, precious as old age.
In 1918 today’s war veterans were young. Each of their many voices had a story to tell, forming the memory of their war. As time went by, many vanished from the ranks.
Most of them disappeared without anyone noticing.In 1998, only a few are left. Some no longer speak, other do so in a hoarse or reedy voice. In any case their presence is unique, rare and precious.
This film was urgent. It was shot at the very last minute.
