This film is about the journey of Merlin and Elie, two teenagers who live a pivotal year, the last of High School, within the Alter Ecole – a place of alternative pedagogy located in the middle of the Walloon countryside. In touch with their desire for autonomy and school requirements, they awaken to the world and to the concerns of our society. While Merlin strives to make his vegetable garden magnificent, Elie cultivates his critical spirit and forges his political commitment.
This is the story of the last school term of two teenagers in the Alter École – a place of alternative pedagogy mainly intended for students who have dropped out of school. The story of Merlin who prefers the tranquility of his vegetable garden to the din of our society and that of Elie who slowly awakens to political activism to better denounce social injustice. Two boys who are said to be “badly brought up” on the pretext that they are more in tune with what they are. Two young adults who wonder about this self-destructive society that gave birth to them and that they have decided, each in their own way, to question. In tune with their desire for autonomy and school requirements, these two teenagers are waking up to the world, like young people of their age and generation.
