In the area evacuated around the Fukushima nuclear power plant, 5 years after the disaster, the village of Tomioka is still empty of its fifteen thousand inhabitants. A few rare individuals still live on this land burning with radiation.
The Hangai decided to continue cultivating their land. The Sato reinvest little by little their house with the project to settle there soon, convinced that a restocking is possible. Matsumura san, with his old father, takes care of abandoned animals in the aftermath of the nuclear accident. He is the first to refuse the order to evacuate. In his own way, by making his life a symbol, he testifies and militates for a denuclearized world.
While the work of “decontamination”, orchestrated by the Japanese government, seem very derisory and vain in the face of the extent of the earthquake both human and ecological, the apparently unreasonable but peaceful existence of these irreducible reminds us that a piece of earth is, as a last resort, our safest link in the world.
