A miner meets a painter.
Slag heaps.
Some artists.Some artists
A slag heap explorer gets a miner to recall his childhood, while on a winter hike through the coal land.
On the trail of Grand Jules (pitworker from 1942 to 1973), the Director takes us on his winter walks on the slagheaps of Wallonia. The slag heap of his childhood is only a few kilometres away of Grand Jules’s one, named “Good Hope”. The Sambre river must surely remember this Don Qixote of the Coal land, who fought for miners’s emancipation, to have them recognised as men, and not just worker ants.
Past and present brush against and question each other: Grand Jules shares his pit work memories, wether standing in the cold back up the slagheap, wether sitting cosily in Charles Szymkowicz’s studio, as the artist paints a portrait of him.”{{'DUREE' | translate}}: 54'
