"Sculpture has helped me to observe people."
“I have only had a simple mental picture of Boris who I knew through reports from others.” “It was in the course of a conversation about the nature of memory that I suggested making a life size sculpture of him – model Boris in clay. I wanted to capture the charm of Boris’ work, that of an observer of his contemporaries.” “Classicaly, as always happens, the work – here the sculpture – assume the role of a third party in the sculptor-model relationship. In the “Clay Figure” the camera plays this role.” “Shown on its own, the film shows the designer-scenery-actor relationship. The statue facing the camera reflects an absurd image, even unhealthy (the sculpture within the sculpture) of the creation of art.” “Pictures as sculpture.” (Paulus BRUN)
