On 22 November 1975, the Spanich radio announced the death of dictator Franco. At the time, my family and i were living in a back street house in Brussels, by our grandfather's : el abuelito Simon. He used to tell us stories about our other country, Spain. From these afternoons listening to my grandfather, i started to dream, travel, and invent this other country that i had only visited during the summer hollydays.
Some years later, i discovered a series of identity photographs of children from Spanish war. During the civil war, more than thirty thousand children were evacuated to Belgium, URSS, Mexico, France and England. On the back of each identity photograph, a name, sometimes just a first name, the only remaining trace of an identity that was left to them. Through the unknown account of these uprooted children, i found a part of myself. It lead me to undertake a tripe to go and meet some of these Ninos scattered, far from home, left on their own and so quickly forgotten…
