Approach to working methods of the screenwriting through the testimonies of European screenwriters such as Olivier Assayas, Raymond Depardon, Andre Dussolier, Alain Tanner, etc.
“The Script is Speaking” attempts to present an investigation into the work methods of contemporary script writing. Going beyond the classic American script, we asked the following professional writers to speak about their concrete experiences : script writers (Pascal BONITZER, Jean-François GOYET, Jean GRUAULT…), authors-directors (Olivier ASSAYAS, Jean-Claude BIETTE, Jean-Claude BRISSEAU, Raymond DEPARDON, André S. LABARTHE, Alain TANNER…) and actors, sources of inspiration and sometimes partners (Emmanuelle CHAULET, André DUSSOLLIER, Tonie MARSHALL…). The conversation will focus on the following themes : the inspiration for stories, their maturation, the degree of accuracy in script writing (somewhere between improvisation and the story-board), collaboration or how to write with four or more hands. Finally the actors will speak about their rapport with the script. Besides interviews our documentary also shows written documents, more concrete work (filming, editing), in relation to the script, and some film excerpts.
