Three Days in August 1914 is a two-part film about the memory of the German atrocities of the beginning of the Great War in Belgium.
In the walls of Dinant, seven “witnesses” remember the great massacres of civilians of 23, 24, 25 August 14, committed in the city by German troops. They are the descendants of the victim families, they tell their family history grinded by tragedy, a legacy that passes from generation to generation. Their stories reveal the deep traces that these crimes against humanity have left, all the more vivid because no justice has sanctioned the guilty. For a long time, the legend of Belgian snipers served as a justification for German authorities and historians. In Dinant, an official German delegation acknowledged the facts in 2001 and asked for forgiveness, putting an end to resentment, but the painful memory persists.
